The Scarpa Zodiac GTX is a lightweight yet rugged hiking shoe. Its split leather upper and GORE-TEX lining offer reliable water resistance and comfort. The BAS technology ensures excellent traction and stability on various terrains, and the Vibram® sole provides a good grip even on wet surfaces.
Scarpa says:
ZODIAC GTX is the trekking boot suitable for prolonged use. Like the rest of the family, it is equipped with the patented BAS technology, which gives stability and protection to the foot thanks to softer concentric areas on the toe and heel which allow the sole to adapt to the ground. In addition, the heel control facilitates progression on steep and sloping terrain. The split leather upper is soft and equipped with 37.5 technology which ensures the optimal foot temperature. Gore-Tex ensures impermeability in all conditions.
Our Verdict
The Scarpa Zodiac GTX is a versatile trekking shoe that bridges the gap between a lightweight hiking shoe and a more robust boot. With a weight of just 571 grams per shoe (UK 8), it’s ideal for those who need solid support and protection without the bulk of a full boot. The split leather upper and GORE-TEX lining provide reliable water resistance and comfort, keeping your feet dry across various conditions.
What makes the Zodiac GTX stand out is its adaptability to varied terrain. The BAS technology ensures excellent traction and stability, particularly on uneven or steep ground. The Vibram® sole grips well on loose rocks and wet surfaces, making it a dependable choice for technical trails. Despite its sturdiness, the shoe is surprisingly comfortable for extended use, with a midsole that offers a good balance of support and cushioning.
Overall, the Scarpa Zodiac GTX is a superb option for trekkers who want the performance of a boot but in a more agile and less cumbersome package. Whether tackling a long-distance trek or navigating challenging day hikes, these shoes won’t disappoint.
I am a size 9, and these boots are true to size.
