Our Verdict

The Stormtracker Sensor Gloves from Outdoor Research are an excellent choice for winter mountain climbing. I appreciate that you can easily fit a liner glove underneath and a shell over the top in more extreme weather. The outer glove is made of a tough polyester softshell that is durable enough to protect the Gore-Tex Windstopper membrane. This makes the gloves windproof and water-resistant but not fully waterproof. However, the strong DWR coating will repel light wind, sleet, and snow. The inner lining is also made of polyester, which only provides a little insulation. This is why these gloves work best when used in a layering system.

The palms of the gloves are made of supple goat leather that adds durability. The name "sensor" indicates that they have some touchscreen functionality. They are not the best I have used, but they allow for some basic navigation while wearing them.

The Stormtracker Sensor Gloves are gauntlet-style gloves that extend far down the wrist. They can be tightened around the wrist with a zipper, which may require you to use your teeth to operate in freezing weather. I would have preferred a hook-and-loop fastener. The gloves can be put on with a convenient Pull-On Loop located inside the glove.

The gloves have an excellent fit, with pre-curved and anatomically stitched fingers that make them easy to manipulate and bend, reducing fatigue with extended wear.
