If you were a fan of the original Rush Mid GTX’s but thought they needed additional protection, you are in luck. The NewRush Mid 2’s are a beefed up, burly walking boot that now utilises Scarper's own Presa sole, a hardwearing and adaptable tread that grips well and helps to shed mud.
Scarpa says:
The Mid-cut version of the RUSH 2 GTX speed hiking shoe for the approaching the mountains at a faster pace, offering a fantastic balance of agility, comfort and support with an updated design. Comfort and cushioning are provided by IKS technology, which progressively and specifically supports the weight of the body during activity. The new anti-torsion system improves stability, while the Gore-Tex membrane guarantees waterproof protection.
Our Verdict
The original Rush Mid GTX’s combined walking boots with a flexible trail runner. This is still the case, but the boot is now more supportive, especially around the ankle. This means they have given up some flexibility but are still comfier and lighter than most “traditional” walking boots.
Most of the upper boot has been constructed for a durable eco-mesh, and the lower of the boot is protected by a durable plastic film, with a tough rubber toe box to ensure the boot's longevity. This is all backed with a Gore-tex membrane that wraps around the gusseted tongue to ensure complete waterproofness.
The soul is made in-house at Scarper, performs well in wet and dry terrains, and mitigates impact.
In terms of their use, they are good all-rounders that will handle most conditions and activities. If you are a multi-day walker who prefers a traditional boot over a lightweight shoe or trail runner, they are worth consideration.
