Our Verdict
For hikers who value natural foot positioning and reliable weather protection, the Altra Lone Peak 9 Waterproof Low is an impressive choice. Staying true to the Lone Peak lineage, this version incorporates a waterproof upper made from recycled polyester mesh combined with durable, no-sew overlays—effectively warding off moisture while ensuring breathability. The shoe retains Altra’s distinctive zero-drop platform and spacious toe box, facilitating comfortable, unrestricted movement over long distances.
The Altra EGO midsole balances responsive cushioning and a tactile feel for the trail, contributing to all-day comfort on varied terrain. The MaxTrac outsole offers consistent traction across most surfaces. However, the MaxTrac outsole, while delivering reliable traction on dry surfaces, may not provide the same grip on wet terrain as the Vibram Megagrip found on the Lone Peak 9+ model. This shoe combines durability, waterproofing, and lightweight performance at approximately 358g for a UK size 8.
