Our Verdict
Hoka’s Kaha 3 Low GTX is a robust, cushioned hiking shoe that strikes an impressive balance between comfort, durability, and grip—ideal for both single-day hikes and extended treks. This latest iteration refines fit and performance, making it a reliable companion for long days on the trail.
Comfort is immediately noticeable. The dual-density midsole, now featuring sugarcane-derived EVA, delivers an excellent blend of cushioning and responsiveness. It’s plush enough to absorb impact over long miles yet maintains the agility needed for technical terrain. Meanwhile, the Vibram Megagrip outsole with 4mm lugs ensures outstanding traction on wet and dry surfaces, making it a solid choice for varied conditions.
Waterproofing has also been enhanced, with GORE-TEX Invisible Fit reducing bulk while maintaining breathability. Despite its low-cut design, the ankle-hugging upper provides a secure, almost gaiter-like fit, effectively keeping out dirt and debris.
Underfoot, the stability is impressive. The shoe offers a solid platform that confidently handles uneven surfaces without feeling overly stiff. On multi-day hikes, the combination of support and cushioning remains consistent, helping to reduce foot fatigue even after long hours on rugged terrain.
