Our Verdict
Soft, breathable and fast drying, this is one of the easiest tees to wear for warm-weather movement.
The Smartwool Active Ultralite Short Sleeve Tee weighs 102g (UK 12) and uses a Merino-TENCEL blend that feels natural but dries faster than standard Merino. I really value that mix—it balances next-to-skin comfort with better moisture handling, especially during higher-output efforts. It’s also odour-resistant, which makes it ideal for multi-day use.
The fit is relaxed rather than close, so if you prefer a more performance-oriented cut, consider going down a size. The stitching is clean and sits flat, and the island doesn't irritate under a pack. The fabric isn't the toughest I’ve used, but for a base layer that’s this breathable and comfortable, that’s a trade-off I’m happy with.
This is my go-to baselayer, especially for multiday hiking. I own three.
