Montbell's Versalite uses the cutting edge Gore Infinium fabric to create a lightweight, windproof barrier. They have upped the game by giving this jacket fully taped seams, making it waterproof too. The result... exceptional performance.

The Versalite Jacket has always followed our "Light & Fast®" design philosophy. From its inception, we have continually attempted to improve upon the design and create the best ultralight rain shell possible. We are now happy to bring about a major change to the design of the Versalite and have decided to change the user experience and improve the Versalite's comfort. The redesigned Versalite Jacket is made using K-Mono Cut, a unique, originally developed pattern based on our Ki-no-bi philosophy. Utilizing GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® fabrics, the jacket now feels smoother and has increased durability. By seam sealing the GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® fabrics, Montbell has reinvented the Versalite Jacket as a super lightweight, waterproof rain shell.
Our Verdict
Montbell's Versalite has upgraded the old style windproof and made it waterproof by combining Gore Infinium and fully taped seams. The stats are impressive enough with 30,000HH giving some serious waterproofing and an MVTR of 43,000 providing excellent levels of breathability, all in a jacket weighing under 200g! The jacket increases the level of breathability further by adding pit zips. They have weather resistant Aqua-Tect zippers and are an impressive length, stretching down the sides to almost the elbow. It's even more impressive when you consider the overall weight of the jacket for this feature in particular.
To make the jacket practical for regular use, rather than a lightweight experiment, in addition to the large pit zips the Versalite comes with two decent sized hand pockets, drawcord hem and adjustable cuffs. The fit of the jacket is pretty generous and the length of the arms is longer than expected too. If you like a roomier jacket or you pull your sleeves down over your hands regularly then this is great for you.
