Waterproof, lightweight, and cleverly built—the Veil XP 30 is so much more than just a running pack.
Rab says:
Move fast, pack light, and defy the elements with the Veil XP. This ultralight, versatile, fully waterproof 30L pack is equipped for fast-moving pursuits in unpredictable conditions. Tested to IPX4, it combines taped seams and waterproof fabric to protect your kit in the range of mountain weather you face on a multi-day trip. This further reduces weight by eliminating dry bags from your kit list.
The Veil XP is fine-tuned to keep you moving, with on-the-go access to gear and a 3D mesh back system that wicks away moisture, flexes with you, and remains comfortable over distance. Built with intrepid runners and fast hikers in mind, it’s geared up for everything from ultralight fastpacking to mountain marathons.
Our Verdict
I’m not a mountain marathon runner, but as a minimalist wild camper, I was genuinely excited about this pack—and it didn’t disappoint. Weighing in at around 545g, it’s impressively light, yet handles a full load confidently thanks to its close-fitting, vest-style harness. Each side of the harness can hold a 500ml soft flask and also features a zipped pocket for quick-access essentials. Rab’s ultra-breathable mono-mesh on the harness, paired with a 3D spacer mesh back panel, keeps things cool, dry, and stable when you’re on the move.
The layout has clearly been carefully considered. The large stretch mesh pocket on the front is ideal for stashing a wet waterproof or quick-access layer. The asymmetric side pockets are both reachable while wearing the pack—one zipped and compact, perfect for a water bottle; the other oversized, great for quickly dumping a layer or, more importantly for me, carrying a compact shelter. That’s the standout feature that shifts this from a running pack into wild camping territory. A dedicated pole sleeve securely holds either trekking or tent poles, reinforcing the pack’s fastpacking credentials.
The hipbelt is minimal but well executed. It sits flat and secure with a simple hook-and-loop fastening backed by a low-profile SR buckle, which keeps it locked in without adding bulk. Perforations across the belt offer a surprising level of ventilation, and it feels stable without being restrictive—great when moving fast with a light load.
The roll-top main compartment is fully waterproof with taped seams (IPX4-rated), so there’s no need for dry bags, and the dual chest straps and harness pockets keep everything secure and accessible while on the move.
Light, weatherproof, and smartly featured—this race pack that’s wild camp is ready.
