Our Verdict
Rab's VR Summit is by far the thickest and warmest jacket in the VR range, though still low profile enough to be incorporated into a layering system. Versatile enough to be used as a mid-layer in winter or as an outer layer in cool or windy conditions. The VR Summit utilises a plush and warm fleece-like lining around the body's core and less insulated VR lining along the arms. No matter how hard you're going, this jacket will perform brilliantly to keep you comfortable.
The Pertex Quantum Air fabric used on the outer provides exceptional breathability without sacrificing protection from the wind and rain, with the addition of a good DWR coating. The VR Summit uses Velcro tabs to create an adjustable hood, cuffs and hem, making this much more of an outer layer rather than mid. Two good-sized hand warmer pockets also set this apart from the other VR jackets in the series.
