An ultralight, well-insulated sleeping pad is best suited to those smaller in stature.
Montbell says:
Heat-retaining EXCELOFT® synthetic insulation maintains warmth in a lightweight and compact design, providing comfortable sleep even in colder temperatures. Montbell's propietary U.L. Comfort System enables compatibility with other pads of various lengths and a pillow, securely holding in place to prevent gaps from forming while sleeping.
Our Verdict
This very well-insulated mat will easily cope with year-round use here in the u.k. The outer material is constructed from a 30 denier ripstop nylon which is durable enough so that you don't need to be too careful with it. Internally the mat is filled with EXCELOFT, a synthetic polyester-based insulation that performs simper to down; it is silent, so you don't get a crinkly noise when you roll on it like some other mats.
I inflated the mat with a stuff sack, which this mat does not come with, which is a bit of a letdown. It took me less than two sacks to fully inflate the mat.
A feature I like about this mat is the integrated cinch cord that helps compress it when you roll it away. This can also attach a pillow so it doesn't slide out.
I'm six foot tall, relatively slim and averagely broad. This mat is 150 cm (hence the name) in length, about 4.9 feet, so unless you are petite or use a pillow or rucksack to extend the mat length, your feet and arms will hang off the mat.

ASTM R-Value
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.
