For the camper who puts a comfortable night’s sleep above all else.
Klymit says:
The Klymaloft™ sleeping pad features an innovative foam and air design to deliver premium sleep comfort. A plush foam topper conforms to support the body and eliminate pressure points while the underlying I-beam air chambers create loft and stabilize the sleeping pad. The air and foam combination strikes the perfect balance between comfort, pack size, and weight.
Our Verdict
Without a doubt, this is the comfiest mat I’ve ever used. It’s a cross between a self-inflating mat, and an air mat. The plush foam topper is covered with a stretchy polyester that covers the main sleeping area, this feels fantastic next to your skin, and is the closest to sleeping in a real bed you will get when camping. The underlying I-beam air chambers support and hold the body incredibly well, its 13 cm high which I think is the highest mat I’ve come across. If you are a side sleeper you will definitely be getting a good night sleep.
The stuff sack also doubles as a pump sack, and it took approximately 10 pump sacks worth to fully inflate the mat. When you are done with the mat and its time to pack away, the valve is incredibly easy to use, simply flip the nozzle, halfway to let as much air out as possible, or flip it all the way, for more controlled deflating, making it easy to get the mat to your desired level. With an r-rating of 2.3, this is a 3 season mat for all but the coldest of sleepers.
This is an incredibly good mat, that is as comfortable as my memory foam mattress at home, however, it has two big caveats for me, which mean I won’t be taking this back packing. It’s on the heavy end of the scale at 1500 grams, which I could probably convince myself was worth it, because of the fantastic nights sleep you would be in for, but the sheer size of the thing when packed makes this unusable for me as a backpacking mat, it would take up half of my 60l pack. However, if I was camping close to my car, or I was using this at a base camp, and exploring from there, this would definitely be my mat of choice. But if you are willing to sacrifice room in your packs, and are willing to carry it, this will be the best night’s sleep you will ever have on the trail.

ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat. In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.
