The Ortlieb Back-Roller City 40L Panniers are a great choice for commuting and can still be used for touring. They are well designed, very well built and durable. As usual, the high quality waterproof materials used look great and perform well in any conditions you might find.

Our Verdict
Ortlieb's Back-Roller City 40L has a slightly different look to the traditional Ortlieb Back-Roller panniers with a more simplified look. The classic, heavy duty materials are perfect for the no fuss approach to commuting. These panniers hold a significant amount of kit and if you are careful with your distribution (keeping it even) you can keep a smooth ride. The mounts are easy to use and fully adjustable.
The roll top lid makes access quick and easy. This is the most basic Back-Roller with no extra pockets or dividers inside but there are a number of additional accessories you can get from Ortlieb if you need to later on. These panniers have been really practical packs for commuting and the quality of the Ortlieb construction means that you never worry about the contents being exposed to poor weather.
