The small pack size, low weight and great value make the Zypheros Compact a great tent for bikepackers, cycle tourers, mountain marathon beginner and hikers alike. A classic design that works really well in mixed, three season conditions.

The Zephyros Compact 1 tent blends low weight and trusted performance to provide a versatile lightweight tent for one person. It’s been designed with a compact pack size (just 30x18cm), enabling it to fit more easily into panniers and bags and ideal for a host of activities, not just backpacking. Updated for SS21 with a new colour and adjusters at the bottom of the end poles for easier pitching.
The Zephyros Compact 1 is suitable for solo backpacking trips that are short to medium duration, for longer trips or where you have a lot of gear you might want to consider a larger tent. It’s also good for cycling trips, thanks to its compact pack size, and adventure racing.
The tent is quick and easy to pitch – the inner and flysheet pitch together and inner and flysheet pegging points are combined to speed things up. When it comes to moving on it’s straightforward to pack away in the oversized tarp style bag – simply roll the tent into the side opening bag and tighten the drawcord. This type of tent design does need to be pegged out as it’s not free-standing.
The Zephyros has been developed for 3 season use and is suitable for campsite stays as well as wild camping. Its tried and tested low profile design, based on the Terra Nova Laser Compact, helps shed wind in poor conditions.
The tent has Superflex alloy main and end poles. The main pole folds down to 30cm long, plus alloy ‘V’ angle pegs. The Zephyros Compact 1 is a fully waterproof tent, with sealed seams. The flysheet and groundsheet are made using high performance polyester.
The inner tent has a mesh panel in the top half of the door plus a mesh panel at each end of the inner tent to help with air flow and manage condensation.
When you’re coming back to your tent in the dark or need to make sure you’re tent is visible in low light, the yellow guy lines are reflective as it’s the trim around the pole sleeves.

Our Verdict
Once again, Wild Country have updated their successful Zephyros Compact 1 Person Tent managing to cut more weight and making it more usable without sacrificing performance. The Compact versions have a reduced pack size and shorter pole sections that enable the tent to have an impressive 30cm length when packed. This allows the tent to be close in specification to Terra Nova Laser series, but at a more affordable price and without the need for the pole hood cover. The all-in-one pitching with the inner and fly attached make it ideal for the ever changing conditions in the UK.
This is a great value backpacking tent or entry level mountain marathon tent as it stands up to the elements really well through simple, functional materials and design. This one person version is a decent enough size in terms of internal and vestibule space and certainly serves a purpose and this enables it to keep the weight at a reasonably low level. Updates include a side opening tent bag that you can more easily roll the tent into and compress to save a lot of time and energy.
