The Alto is the new flag ship design for a practical, ultralight tent from Sea to Summit. Packed with innovative features this lightweight tent has a good amount of space and is designed to be user friendly.
Sea to Summit says
The one-person, semi-freestanding Alto TR1 PLUS with full fabric inner, is where ultralight tents meet class-leading space and comfort for cooler climates. Our patent-pending Tension Ridge Architecture means this tent has unmatched useable room, a high ceiling, an oversized door and a large vestibule for storing gear. A truly effective and adjustable ventilation system and multiple set-up modes also make this backpacking tent the epitome of comfort and versatility. Designed for cooler climates, the breathable full fabric inner blocks wind while allowing humid air to escape.
Though the Alto TR1 PLUS weighs only 1056g | 2lb 5.2oz (minimum trail weight), it’s packed full of intuitive features, like our FairShare Storage System, which is comprised of dual-use storage bags that can be clipped into your tent to create extra storage and our illuminating Lightbar. With a full fabric inner and DAC’s world-class Featherlite NFL and PRESSFIT pole sections, the Alto TR1 is primed for fast-and-light cool-climate solo exploits.
Our Verdict
Sea to Summit's Alto TR1 Plus Tent is a 3+ season one person tent in the new range. The Alto is designed with a balance of low weight and plenty of usable space and it does this really well. The full range of tents use the innovative Tension Ridge pole design which increases head height, creates more space and improves ventilation. The placement and design of the vents is also a well thought out aspect that allows you to keep condensation to a minimum. There is a really good amount of internal space and vestibule space for sitting up in, cooking and storing all your kit.
There are a range of interesting features included which some people will love and others will probably find gimmicky. However, it's great to see any company trying new ideas such as the Lightbar, FairShare storage system which then doubles up for additional storage pockets and a number of practical touches with guy cords and pegs. The set up is designed to maximise versatility with a number of options including fly only, inner only and other more interesting ones depending on the weather. This Plus version comes with a full fabric inner. This does increase the weight slightly but it is worth it if you are camping in colder conditions as it keep out draughts and keeps in heat much better than the mesh inner version.
