This light and stretchy mid-layer is a good extra layer when working hard in cooler conditions, and just as good to throw on when you stop for a break or for lunch.
Montane says:
The Protium Lite Pull-On serves as an excellent base or mid layer for all kinds of adventures. The THERMO GRID fleece fabric features a brushed grid back construction to manage moisture and to regulate heat effectively, and a 1/3 front zip offers added ventilation when you’re out on the hill
Our Verdict
A lovely mid-layer that promotes unrestrictive movement, and a good layer to have on when you start your hike on a chilly morning, the Protium aids your base layer in wicking moisture away from the skin. It’s a piece that will get a lot of use, whatever you are doing in the outdoors, but it’s excellent for hikers and rock climbers.
The snug collar helps block out some of the wind and keeps the heat in when needed, but the 1/3 front zip offers added ventilation when you are working hard.
It’s a lightweight layer that I often find myself putting on when I have stopped hiking to sit down for lunch or a snack, it will keep your core warm when you stop, but you won’t overheat and start sweating like you would with a down or synthetic puffy.
It’s a good layer to add to your sleep system; you won’t get too hot and sweaty, but it will undoubtedly add warmth.
