Our Verdict
NPB1 Power Bank is a lightweight, slim power bank with two key features that set it apart from other power banks I have used for hiking. These make it much more user-friendly and are tailored to life on the trail.
It is incredibly light and capable of charging my phone fully once, so I can go around two days "off-grid" if I am using it sparingly. I primarily use my phone navigation, an audiobook at camp and the occasional photo. You may use your phone more or less, so that should be considered.
Firstly it's waterproof; it can even charge when submerged I do not intend to charge my phone whilst underwater, but that level of waterproofing instils confidence when backpacking. The knowledge that it will still work if this gets wet is a huge draw for me.
The other key feature is the charger's ability to hold charge in very low temperatures. Most electrical products do not like freezing temperatures and quickly lose charge if exposed to these conditions. However, the Nitecore holds its charge down to -10.
