Incredibly light, incredibly breathable, you would be hard pushed to find a better fleece for hiking and hill walking in the warmer months of the year, or as a layering piece under a shell in cooler conditions.
Rab says:
This fleece has an extraordinary amount of stretch and is incredibly unrestrictive, so as well as hiking and biking, this jacket would be brilliant for indoor and outdoor rock climbing and bouldering.
The Thermic™ G fleece helps trap warm air close to the skin but ventilates fast when the jacket is opened; brilliant for sunny calm days, but I would advise a wind shell in cooler conditions as the wind will go right through it.
I often find that more technical fleeces have a habit of riding up, but this fit well and didn’t cause any irritation. Sadly, no thumb loops, which is my only negative
Our Verdict
This is my ideal fleece for the trail, its warm, but breathes incredibly well and also vents heat quickly when you are exserting yourself. Its not a super tight technical layer but it has a good amount of stretch and facilitates good mobility. The Thermic G helps direct moisture away from the skin and provides a good amount of warmth. It’s not at all bulky so works brilliantly under a shell, whether that be a wind shell or a full on rain jacket, and the double cuffs keep it tight around your wrists so it doesn’t ride up, and they also provide additional comfort. It doesn’t have hand warming pockets, something I’d prefer, but the chest pocket is generous and again helps moisture management as its mesh lined.
