Refreshingly original and absolutely captivating. Veggies, coconut milk and nettle? It’s a match! What we love most about this dish is that it is as crazy positive as its author. Nettle Curry was our first dish from a unique menu developed together with LYO ambassadors. Sean Villanueva O’Driscoll is known not only for his world-class climbing achievements, but also for his culinary skills and commitment to healthy eating. No wonder his Nettle Curry is packed with veggies! Sugar peas, carrots, pumpkin, broccoli, and zucchini are served in a creamy coconut sauce with basmati rice. Nettle leaves reflect Sean’s exceptional taste and complement the dish in a surprising but charming way.

PREPARATION
- Tear off at the notch above the zipper
- Remove oxygen absorber
- Add 390 ml of hot, boiled water - fill line № 3 (see inside)
- Stir thoroughly
- Close the zipper and leave for 9 minutes
- Tear off at the notch below the zipper, stir again & enjoy
Our Verdict
LYO have tried to take a different route with their meals focussing on natural, fresh ingredients and no preservatives or artificial additives. They proudly cultivate some of the fruits and herbs on their own fields. Other fruits and herbs as well as vegetables come from farmers known to them personally. All ingredients are carefully verified to ensure that their products meet the highest quality standards.
The majority of the meals use interesting combinations of natural ingredients with chunky vegetables, authentic flavours and more of a home cooked approach. We’ve been lucky enough to test a variety of them and have always been impressed with the end results. Generally, we appreciated the good combinations of flavour, texture and portion size.
The fill line for adding water to the packs is novel with a blue area from the bottom showing how much water is required. It is quite a subtle design feature that can be easy to miss and some form of internal indicator would be best but it still works.
Excellent ingredients in an innovative meal - We've singled out LYO's Expedition Nettle Curry as one of our top recommendations because the large chunks of vegetable and use of natural ingredients are some of the best we've ever seen. The Nettle Curry is innovative and very different to most other dry meals for camping. It also ticks a lot of boxes in terms of it being Lactose Free, Gluten Free and Vegan

STAFF'S TASTE TEST - This is one of the most impressive meals we've seen. Unlike many freeze dried meals the size of the vegetable in this were fantastic, large chunks that rehydrated really well and tasted good. This felt more like a meal than indistinct ingredients in a bag. The curry flavour was very mild and not to everyone's liking with some saying it was a bit bland. Overall a nice meal with excellent ingredients. |
