This vest’s full-zip extends through a stand-up collar for warmth, comfort and venting. Offset shoulder seams and flat-seam construction throughout reduce chafe and minimize bulk. A zippered left-chest pocket and two zippered hand pockets with webbing zipper pulls provide secure places for daily necessities. Soft elastane trim finishes the armholes and hem. Our Retro Pile Vest is also Fair Trade Certified™ sewn, which means the people who made it earned a premium for their labor.
Our Verdict
Patagonia's Retro Pile Fleece is a classic piece of kit that's perfect as a winter layer to keep the warmth in and the chill out. Double-sided shearling fleece is both a cosy lining and an effective hard-wearing outer, and when combined with finishing touches such as beefy YKK zippers, it makes for a versatile fleece vest for all conditions.
A small chest pocket gives the vest extra functionality, and the large zip pulls make it a breeze to throw on even when wearing gloves. This is ultimately an excellent casual vest that is versatile enough to wear as a mid or outer layer, making it a true cold-weather essential.
