Our Verdict
The Patagonia Capilene Thermal Weight Zip Neck is a versatile baselayer/fleece for cold-weather hikes. It offers warmth, breathability, and excellent moisture-wicking performance. Made from Polartec Power Grid fabric, it balances insulation and ventilation, making it ideal for high-output activities in chilly conditions.
The open-grid pattern traps heat effectively while allowing moisture to escape, keeping you dry and comfortable even during strenuous climbs. The long zip at the front is perfect for venting excess heat, while the smooth outer surface makes it easy to layer under other garments. Thoughtful design touches like offset shoulder seams, flatlock stitching, and underarm gussets help prevent chafing, especially when wearing a pack.
