A lightweight, windproof and fast-drying vest with added warmth for hiking and running in the mountains
Mountain Equipment says:
A versatile layer providing windproofness and just enough warmth. With a superlight double-weave soft shell fabric and a moisture-wicking micro-grid lining it dries quickly after the ascent and its vest design doesn’t impede movement
Our Verdict
At 171g (medium), it’s a lightweight layer that manages to feel protective without being bulky. The EXOLITE 45 fabric strikes a nice balance: dense enough to take the sting out of a breeze, yet still breathable enough to leave on during uphill efforts. The inner grid lining is soft against the skin and does a good job managing moisture, especially under a pack. I found the fit close but unrestrictive, with clean armholes and a hem that stays in place without needing constant adjustment.
The three pockets are well-sized for stashing gloves, snacks or a phone, and the vest stuffs neatly into its own hand pocket with loops for clipping onto a harness or pack. A simple and efficient piece that earns its place on the hill.
