Our Verdict
The updated Ibex Mountain Pants are a dependable softshell for mixed conditions. They are tough enough for scrambles yet comfortable over long miles.
The Exolite 210 fabric is what sets them apart—it’s durable, with a good balance of wind resistance and breathability, and dries quickly when it needs to. The alpine cut is slim without feeling restrictive, helped by articulated knees and a bit of stretch. I was also pleasantly surprised by the integrated belt. I’m usually not a fan, but this one works well and stays put, saving the need to bring my own. At 429g for a Medium, they’re not the lightest option on the rail, but the comfort and versatility more than earn their place on the kit list.
Storage is practical, with two hand pockets, two thigh pockets (mesh-lined so they double as vents), and a single rear pocket. The lower leg gussets and ankle zips make it easy to adjust over bulkier boots, making these good for colder outings or light winter use.
I wouldn’t reach for them on the hottest summer days, but they’d be good for mountain walking, cooler-season trekking, and scrambling.
