Built for distance, designed for load, and comfortable enough to keep going—this is a serious pack for serious mileage.
Rab says:
Our definitive pack for exploring far-flung regions where self-sufficiency is key, this 80L backpack is geared up for serious multi-day adventures, from long distance trekking to shorter expedition use. It’s loaded with storage features that have been strategically chosen to provide maximum utility for minimum weight, focusing on the elements you really need on remote journeys. With a highly cushioning wraparound harness and an adjustable V-TRAX™ back system, it supports heavy gear with ease and offers comfort that endures over distance and extended periods on the trail.
Our Verdict
The Rab Hyperion 80 is built for extended adventures where extra capacity isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. With a generous 80L of space and weighing in at 2,578g, it’s not ultralight, but Rab has deliberately focused on durability, comfort, and load-carrying ability—and it shows.
The V-TRAX carry system remains refreshingly straightforward. A Velcro-based adjustment lets you slide the harness to suit your torso length, and once it’s set, it stays firmly in place. The breathable back panel handles sweaty ascents well, and the padding is supportive without tipping into overbuilt territory—important when hauling more gear for longer periods.
Storage is intuitive and easy to manage. Dual access—top and lower zipped entry—with an internal divider helps keep things organised, whether on the trail for a few nights or on a full expedition. The hipbelt pockets are functional, roomy enough for a phone or trail snacks, and the side pockets easily fit 1L bottles. The front pocket is more secure than a mesh option—slightly slower to access, but a fair trade-off for added protection.
Internal compression straps help stabilise bulkier loads, and there’s a rain cover tucked underneath, ready when the weather turns.
The bottom line is that the Hyperion 80 pack is ready to carry weight without complaint. It stays stable and secure even fully loaded, with no sag or sway. If you’re heading off-grid or out for the long haul and need a pack that puts reliability over gimmicks, this is one you can count on.
