Our Verdict
For fresh-brewed coffee on the trail, it's hard to beat the simplicity and portability of the GSI Outdoors Glacier Personal JavaPress. This compact French press system weighs 330g yet quickly brews 500ml of piping hot coffee. Its nesting design with an outer mug and inner plunger cylinder allows it to pack down small, easily fitting inside the pocket of a backpack.
Simply add grounds to the cylinder, pour hot water over them, and let them steep for a few minutes before depressing the plunger.
The press and mug are insulated with a nylon sleeve and a lid, which keeps your brew warm a little longer and allows you to handle the hot mug in the morning.
The mug stacks inside the press, though you have to disassemble the press to do this.
