Rab says:
Fully featured with a clean, simple design, the Exion 65 is a highly versatile pack that takes you wherever you want to go, from thru-hikes to multi-day treks between alpine huts. The adjustable V-TRAX™ carry system, with its thermoformed harness and dual densities of foam, ensures full contact with your back while delivering cushioning support where it’s needed and reduced bulk where it’s not. The result is a construction that keeps weight down, carries heavy loads well, and offers you instant comfort which endures over long distances. With an eye-catching embossed pattern and high-comfort, practical design, the Exion 65 is the perfect pack for unhurried miles on the trail.
Our Verdict
Rab’s Exion 65 is a full-featured backpacking rucksack that marks the brand’s continued expansion into traditional trekking packs. This model is designed for extended trips where comfort and durability matter over weight savings. At 1,961 grams (medium/large), it sits in the same category as packs from Osprey and Gregory, offering strong load-carrying ability with a structured yet comfortable fit.
The V-TRAX adjustable back system allows for a precise fit, transferring weight efficiently to the hips for improved stability on long treks. The wraparound harness and supportive hip belt ensure full contact and cushioning, making it a solid option for heavier loads. The extendable lid provides an extra 5 litres of capacity, adding flexibility and keeping the gear you need closer to hand.
Access is well thought out, with a U-shaped front zip and lower compartment entry, making it easy to reach gear without unpacking everything. The side mesh pockets feature angled access, making it possible to grab a water bottle without taking off the pack—a small but convenient touch. However, the compression straps over the side pockets can get in the way when retrieving gear quickly.
Overall, the Rab Exion 65 is a well-balanced pack with a comfortable carry, innovative storage options, and durable construction, making it an excellent choice for multi-day hikes and hut-to-hut adventures.
