Our Verdict
Rab’s Exion 38 is a versatile, feature-rich pack designed for demanding day hikes, light overnighters, and fast-moving adventures. Weighing 1,397 grams, it strikes a good balance between durability, comfort, and load-carrying efficiency.
The V-TRAX adjustable back system provides a close, stable fit, transferring weight effectively to the hips for better load distribution. The wraparound harness and supportive lumbar padding make for a comfortable carry, while the 3.5mm aluminium frame offers enough structure for heavier loads without feeling rigid.
The Exion 38 features a side zip for quick access to kit,, this is handy for reaching gear on the go, though it does mean careful packing is essential. The large front mesh pocket is a welcome addition, providing space for an extra layer or wet gear.
A slight downside is the compression straps over the side mesh pockets, which can make accessing water bottles less convenient. However, the overall fit, durability, and thoughtful storage options make this a strong choice for a comfortable and capable daypack.
