Our Verdict
Fjällräven's Bergtagen 38 Litre Rucksack is a streamlined, stripped back pack that is ideally suited to mountaineering activities.The design of the pack and materials used show a quality pack immediately from the aluminium buckles to the waterproof, durable Bergshell fabrics, this is a top of the range pack. There is plenty of padding for heavier loads while the wooden, birch frame is removable along with the top lid to make it more versatile.
There are plenty of useful feature even with this stripped back design. The slim cut still allows numerous accessory points with strong daisy chain webbing, ice axe loops, a couple of zipped pockets in the lid and metal closures for tough but easy to use access. This bag is sensational to use in mountainous environments where you can get the most out of the features and design and I can't wait for winter to roll round again to get out with this. However, it probably wouldn't be that great for normal, everyday use.
