The Storm Gloves are waterproof, windproof and really well insulated. They are designed and built to withstand the cold, wet weather encountered in the mountains year-round.
Rab says
Our new Storm Glove is aptly named. With synthetic Stratus™ insulation and Porelle® waterproof inserts, it provides year-round waterproof protection, whatever the mountain puts in your way.
The Storm Glove is built from tough ripstop nylon with a Porelle® Dry polyurethane membrane. That helps provide additional waterproofing and improved moisture management without compromising lightness or flexibility. The glove also uses soft Porelle® waterproof inserts between the outer and lining to add extra protection without trapping sweat or compromising dexterity. Warmth is provided by quick-drying Stratus™ polyester sheet insulation, which retains body heat, while transferring moisture rapidly away from the skin. The Storm Glove also features a DWR coating for extra waterproofing, plus a pre-curved fit and textured polyurethane palm sections for a strong natural grip.
With its extreme mountain protection, advanced breathability and easy-carry weight of 152g, our Storm Glove is ideal for high-energy, all-weather, every-season use.
Our Verdict
Rab's 2020 Storm Gloves have a Porelle lining making them waterproof while the insulation comes from synthetic Stratus material Rab have used in a number of their jackets. The design and fabrics used in the Storm Mitt make them ideal for the cold, wet conditions you'd expect to encounter in the hills and mountains of Britain. This updated version is significantly lighter in weight than the previous model while the use of Stratus insulation is an upgrade in terms of both warmth and weight. The soft leather palms improve grip and the reinforcements improve durability massively.
They can be a bit of a struggle to get your hands back in when you've got cold and wet but this is the same as most other gloves. They do stay warm with the Stratus insulation even when you've got them wet from putting wet hands in them repeatedly which is a big plus during the winter.
