LYO says:
The taste is there, the meat is out. Vegan version of the classic chili con carne cooked only from organic ingredients. Full-bodied taste and aroma of chili, nutritious and filling beans, aromatic bell-pepper and olives, plus the cow is still alive.

Our Verdict
LYO have tried to take a different route with their meals focussing on natural, fresh ingredients and no preservatives or artificial additives. They proudly cultivate some of the fruits and herbs on their own fields. Other fruits and herbs as well as vegetables come from farmers known to them personally. All ingredients are carefully verified to ensure that their products meet the highest quality standards.
The majority of the meals use interesting combinations of natural ingredients with chunky vegetables, authentic flavours and more of a home cooked approach. We’ve been lucky enough to test a variety of them and have always been impressed with the end results. Generally, we appreciated the good combinations of flavour, texture and portion size.
The fill line for adding water to the packs is novel with a blue area from the bottom showing how much water is required. It is quite a subtle design feature that can be easy to miss and some form of internal indicator would be best but it still works.

STAFF'S TASTE TEST - This is a decent vegetarian alternative to the usual chilli con carne with a range of good vegetables replacing the meat. It scored highest with staff who are not big fans of spicy food, while it was criticised by those who do like more heat. The inclusion of the polenta put a few off, but generally was seen as a nice change from the usual pasta or rice. Overall, a nice meal with a very generous portion size. |
