New for 2023, the Axis 2 is a stable, freestanding dome tent that offers two doors and porches for ample space. Its lightweight and inner pitch first design make it an ideal tent for 3 season backpacking.

Our Verdict

This is a well-built tent made from more durable materials, it's not the lightest tent, but it is a tent I'd have the confidence to wait out a storm in. The Groundsheet, Inner and Fly are all made from a robust 68D Polyester Ripstop, which sheds water incredibly well.

Pitching is relatively straightforward. The poles are one continuous structure and form the shape of an "H". The two long poles create the dome shape, and the smaller crossbar creates internal space; simple enough, but I did find this part of the pitch initially tricky; pitching this on my own, it was hard to get the poles to stay in the grommets and stay upright. With two people or with a little more practice, I'm sure it wouldn't have been an issue. The fly sheet then clip's on via pronged buckles. The tent can be guyed out at six points which creates a lot of stability, which I would advise in all but very mild conditions.

The doors to get into and out of the tent are on the small side, as are the vestibules. Luckily there is a large amount of internal space for you and your gear, and you have plenty of headroom to sit up. You have only two pockets inside the tent, one on either door.

It doesn't have a lot of ventilation options but does a good job of keeping condensation at bay. However, it should be noted this tent is designed to protect from bad weather rather than ventilation.

Packing the tent up is easy, and I wish other tent companies would make it as straightforward, an oversized bag with compression straps. This means you're not fighting to get the tent back into its sack, and it won't take up much space in your bag.
