Our Verdict
You get inevitable trade-offs with synthetic bags, which will perform well in damp and humid conditions for a start, but also, you are getting a good, trail-ready bag at a very reasonable price. The Anthracite 30 is a fantastic 3-season bag for any outdoor activity here in the UK, where the weather may not always be very predictable. It's not going to pack down as small as a down bag and will weigh more than a down bag; however, if you need a bag to perform in unpredictable circumstances, say, for example, you are doing the Pennine way in October, this could be the bag for you.
It’s a generous-sized bag with plenty of room to toss and turn without the bag feeling constrictive. The Anthracite has a nice well-fitting hood, an oversized interior anti-draft collar and an insulated tube along the hood, which all increase the bag's warmth, and prevent cold air from entering the bag.
