Using the expertise we developed in sleeping bags, a box-quilted structure is used here with ultra high quality, 800 fill power EX DOWN, achieving both lightweight comfort and excellent heat retention. The surface is DWR (durable water repellent) treated, keeping snow at bay and offering high performance for wear as a cold weather item or when mountain climbing. Employs a two-tone design suited to wear as an outer layer.

Our Verdict
The Montbell Alpine Down Parka is a high-performance insulated jacket that provides exceptional warmth and durability for alpine and cold-weather pursuits.
Weighing just 503g (size M), it features 800-fill power EX Down insulation for outstanding loft and thermal efficiency. The box baffle construction minimises cold spots, while the Ballistic Nylon shell offers wind resistance and durability. Additional features include a helmet-compatible hood, articulated arms for dynamic movement, and fleece-lined hand pockets. It packs down easily into its included stuff sack, making it convenient to carry during expeditions.
In terms of fit, Montbell often leans towards a slimmer cut, but this parka bucks the trend. I typically wear a medium in outdoor clothing, and I found this to be true to size, albeit with slightly long arms. Worn over a base layer and a thin fleece, it felt well-fitted and offered excellent coverage without restricting movement.
The Alpine Down Parka strikes a fine balance between warmth and packability, performing admirably in frigid, static conditions and during active use in cold climates. Its thoughtful design and reliable performance make it an excellent choice for mountaineers and cold-weather adventurers alike.
