Vango says:
Our lightest sleeping mat at 410g, the new Aotrom trek sleeping mat is one of the most technical and advanced sleeping mats in our range. It is the ultimate in light weight and small pack size as it packs down to around the size of a can of juice, whilst not compromising in comfort. It's air filled Welded Channels, mould to the contours of the ground and of your body for a more comfortable sleep.
Our Verdict
Vango's Aotrom Sleeping Mat keeps weight and pack size to a minimum without sacrificing comfort and usability. The simple design does a great job of providing enough support where it's needed while also keeping out any lumps and bumps from the ground. With 20D fabric it's not the toughest mat but it is still durable enough to last years with regular use. Generally speaking, this kind of fabric is worth it for the weight saving.
A simple flat, multi-function valve that is really easy to use, with the one-way inflation part making it pretty efficient to blow up quickly and it dumps air quickly when deflating by opening up the whole valve. This simple design works well and helps maintain an impressively small pack size.

ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.
